  P2: Converting MXF files to DVCPRO HD 1080/60i

  After shooting some test footage on an HVX-200, onto a P2 card in DVCPRO HD 1080/60i, I am not able to import the MXF files into Final Cut Pro. I no longer have the camera, and have deduced that when I dumped the data from the P2 onto my hardrive, I failed to copy the lastclip.txt file. I am also not able to view the MXF files in any other way.

  Question:

  What is the best way (program) to convert MXF files into DVCPRO HD 1080/60i Quicktime files, that Final Cut Pro will be able to import? Is there any free software available, that will allow you to view MXF files?

  Do a forum search, I’ve seen this issue answered several times here.

  Panasonic’s P2CMS is software that will allow you to view your P2 contents, but not export in another format.

  I believe Raylight for Mac ($200) will allow you to access Contents without the lastclip.txt file and work with them directly through Quicktime/FCP/etc.

  But other people have covered the topic much more thoroughly than I can.

  Well, sometimes you may fail to import MXF files into FCP, FCP says that you can directly import DVCPRO HD 1080i/60 into it, so you can transfer MXF into DVCPRO HD 1080i/60. I see Panasonic’s P2CMS and Raylight for Mac ($200)have been recommended, however, P2CMS allow you to view your P2 contents, however, you are not able to export in another format, so you still can not use in FCP. Raylight for Mac ($200) is a little expensive. You may try TransMXF for Mac, I use it to deal with MXF problems. You can view MXF files and transfer it for FCP with the program. It has free trial version, you can see whether it’s helpful for you.
