I’m attempting to emulate the transition in this video

it is the transition between the ubisoft logo and the sausage shot…. i just cant figure out how they did this… i really hope they didn’t output to VHS and then made tape to tape edits to get this look.

It looks like a combination of a rapid horizontal wiggle effects (Google AE wiggle expression) and a glitch effect.Here is one of many places you can get the glitch effect.

Yes, I got a freebee for visiting their booth (light fx) and won another at the Media Motion Ball (flash fx). Add those to the 2 I already own (Film FX and Animated mattes). Real good creative tools.

is there any other way to do this inside of AE… i want to have something i can control and modify.

Well you can create a wiggle expression for the movement.
And using fractal noise that is masked might just do it.

Dave is right, it’s a cut with some effects that take the last shot out and some that bring new shot it. They can be all created in AE using a variety of techniques, look up TV Distortion, signal noise tutorials…anything that gives you a bad television image.
There’s also a some plugins at AEscripts that create that look, if you have the money.
