Missing VIDEO files
Dear CC,
We recently did a shoot and when back in the office are missing our VIDEO files. The folder contains AUDIO (.MXF) and CLIP (.XML) files but no video or other files. What happened? We have never had this happen before. We were definitely recording. Are these files findable/salvageable?
Is this a common problem with P2? If so we will need to go back to tape.
These files mean the job to us and if we don’t have them we are well in big doo-doo.
Has anyone els had these problems? Any/All help is greatly appreciated and is greatly appreciated.

How did you make theses copies? Were they verified? Without the video folder you have no footage…

This is NOT normal for P2…and it sounds like something wasn’t done properly.
You should have two things to start…a CONTENTS folder and a Lastclip.txt file. A par of these for EACH card offloaded. Typically you should have several folders (one for each card offloaded) that contain these files.
Now, in the CONTENTS folder there should be 6 more folders….AUDIO, CLIP, ICON, PROXIE, VIDEO, VOICE. If you do not have this file structure, then…well…the outlook isn’t good.
Can you walk us thru the workflow you used on this shoot to get the files? Maybe we can find the error in there.
BTW, here is a tutorial on working with P2 in FCP. While the interface in FCP is different, the methods described in dealing with P2 are still very valid.
