    Greetings folks,

Have contacted Panasonic (“never heard of such a thing”) and they’re working on it. Short of sending everything back for troubleshooting — was hoping that someone MAY have experienced something similar and discovered a fix or solution. Odd that this happened to all 3 cards…or is it the cards?

    Here’s the situation.

(PC, XP Pro/SP2/Avid MC Adrenaline 2.7)
    – Purchased 3 16G P2 Cards, an AJPC2060 Store, and an HVX200 camera little over a month ago.
    – Utilized all 3 P2 cards on a shoot. Transferred data to P2 Store. Imported into AVID Adrenaline. All functioned perfectly — everything A-OK.
    – With the P2 Card in the P2 Store, I attempted to FORMAT the P2 Cards within the P2 viewer for re-use. A dialogue box appeared indicating that the WRITE PROTECT was enabled on the card. Checked the card. Write protect was NOT enabled. Switched it back and forth a few times. Attempted again to format — same error message. Followed the same procedure with the OTHER 2 P2 cards with the same result. Each time a dialogue box appeared indicating that the WRITE PROTECT was enabled on the cards. They were not. I moved the write protect switch back and forth on each card several times to ensure that it was indeed “off”.- Checked the properties on each card — all the previous data HAD BEEN deleted during the incomplete formatting process. Contents folder and sub folders all remained.
    – Loaded cards into HVX200 — camera did not recognize cards.
    – Went to format cards within the camera itself but the slot 1 and slot 2 options in the dropdown menu were grayed out — not able to navigate to them. Same result with all 3 cards. Tried slot 1 alone, slot 2 alone and both together — camera not seeing cards.
    – Attempted to format cards using the P2 Store as a standalone. Held the P2C button for 2 seconds — appropriate LED’s flashed — hit start and all went to black. Waited for flashing P2C light to indicate formatting complete. Did not occur. Waited 10 minutes for each card.
    – Again, placed cards in camera — camera did not see them.
    – Placed cards directly into my laptop’s PCMIA slot. Each card is seen as a removable storage device. Each card is seen in the P2 viewer. Each card has the same specs — 14.9G available, FAT32, and all have the appropriate contents folder and subfolders (video, audio, etc.). The P2 viewer on the laptop “allows” me to format them. However, after indicating “format complete” — the card is still not recognized nor can it be formatted in the HVX200 or in the P2 Store.

    Bottom line:
    – All cards, P2 store and HVX200 functioned properly upon arrival (checked and I have the most recent firmware for all units).
    – Problems appear to have begun when the P2 Store attempted to format cards through the PC — not as a standalone.
    – Since that time, cards are not seen by HVX200 and cannot be formatted by P2 Store when connected to PC or as a standalone unit.
    – Note: The yellow lights on the HVX200 do NOT flash when any of these cards are inserted. The yellow P2C light on the P2 store ALSO DOES NOT LIGHT when these cards are inserted.
    – However, cards are seen by the PC as removable storage devices and are seen in the P2 viewers.
    – We have taken great care with cards and have NEVER removed them during any process.

    I’m baffled.

    Thanks!

Did I miss that you updated the P2 Store firmware? If not. Try that.

    Thanks Jan,

Yes the firmware was updated and confirmed to be correct by Panasonic support.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks again.

    Just a followup FYI:

The failure appears to be in the camera. The camera’s P2 card reader and SD card reader do not function. They failed after 2 hours of use. Apparently, this is not the first case according to some folks at dvxuser.com.

Attempting to get a repair or replacement but my reseller says I’m probably looking at several weeks to several months.

Very disappointing. Will always be nervous about the camera’s reliability in the field.

I have had the exact same problem as described here, the only difference being that it is only with one of my p2 cards i have several other cards that a regularly in use and all work perfectly. I use 2 HVX200 camcorders and this one card has the same problem on each one. Im not really sure where to go with this one.
