    i know that we want to stay away from that gain button unless necessary. i actually had to use it for a shoot as my on-camera light suddenly died and was still rolling. i punched up the gain to 9db and finished the shoot. I was so worried about a grainy image, but it actually looked good. infact, my client thanked me for an excellent production and never mentioned anything about “noisy” footage.

    Hmmm, you must have gotten a special version of the camera, or have a very bad monitor 😉

    What level were you getting on average? Were the blacks crushed ?

    Anything under 30 IREs with Mid gain gets really grainy for us…

    i didnt check the footage on a broadcast monitor. The client only played it through his home television and enjoyed it. Havent heard anything bad so far (its been three months).
    I think the scene settings helped a little since the blacks were
    milky, the gain wasnt too obvious (vs rich blacks)
