    Hi,
I’m in the beginning of a shoot using both P2-4GB cards and 16GB cards. In the field I’m dumping the cards to a Firewire 800 external drive linked to my MacBook Pro.
Now, I’m trying to import the files from the Firewire 800 drive in my studio into my Final Cut 5.0.4 system. But, after importing part of the file (just one cut), it completely locks up and crashes my computer. I have to do a hard start just to regain control. Is this a problem with this version FCP, with the Mac, or what?
I have four more days of shooting and am seriously considering renting camera with real tape going through it.
Please help with your suggestions quickly.
    Thanks,
    David

5.0.4 has problems; try updating to the latest free update, 5.1.4.

Or if you want an effortless, crash-less, bug-free experience, get Raylight from http://www.dvfilm.com. It bypasses the import/conversion process entirely, letting you edit directly from the MXF files, and therefore any issues you have related to importing will simply disappear.

    Barry,
You’re the second person who has recommended upgrading my version of FCP. I’m going to start there but also investigate the Raylight solution you suggest. Thanks,
    David
