    Hi Creative Cows,

I have finally joined the P2 bandwagon and I am having an import problem. I hope someone can help me out.

This is my first time using P2 cards and I’m importing P2 files (which I have saved on to a LaCie hard drive, and yes I copied both the contents and the last clip text) by clicking file/import/panasonic P2, I click on import P2 and I navigate to the correct folder on the LaCie,
click on the contents, all the clips appear in the import window, I select them all and click import and immediately get an exclamation point warning that says “One or more clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips.”

Now I have nine seperate folders for each time I copied a P2 card onto the LaCie, I can’t import eight of them but I can import one.

Also, I can import just fine, straight out of the camera using firewire.

    I’m using a G4 with 1 Gig of RAM, OSX 10.4.10 and FCP 5.04. The project is 720pn compression at 24p (23.9)

Is it possible to copy media back onto a P2 card and try to import it into FCP?
    How?

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Shane,
I am using FCP 5.04 and I’m not finding the drop down menu.
Is it hidden somewhere… probably obvious.

    Thanks,

In the import window to the right of the search box at the top are three buttons. The third to the right will reveal the drop down menu.

Well, thats what it looked like on the graphic that Shane sent me, but I’m at 5.0.4 and I don’t have those three buttons. I’ve been trying to download the 5.1.5 upgrade but Apple doesn’t seem to recognize my serial number. It recognized it just fine when I downloaded 5.0.4.

    Thanks for the help anyway,

    Scott

Nope…5.0.4 doesn’t have that option. And you can’t go to 5.1 anymore…that was an paid upgrade that was CHEAP ($49)…and available for over a year. Better P2 import options. Now the only thing you can do is upgrade to FCP 6.

5.0.4 was the first version to support P2, and it had a few bugs. TIme to upgrade my friend.

That’s what I was afraid of. I already have the G5 and the FCP6 upgrade, I just trying to finish a project before I do the install. In fact I read your blog about how you did you install. It sounded like the way to go.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Dear Scott,

I am finding your example and this conversation very helpful. I am using fcp5.0.4 and first time importing P2. Have been figuring out this import-problem this weekend and ruling down all other options (flaws in copying the files, storing or naming them, file or shooting formats, custom set-ups, sequence settings) before getting an upgrade.

But now, what became of you? Did you upgrade to fcp 6, how did you do it (did you follow Shane

    Auli,

I ended up upgrading to 6.0, not exactly using Shane’s method, but upgrading none the less. And everything has been fine since. I have be so busy shooting that I haven’t done any editing since I upgraded, so actually the importing is fine and I think the editing will be fine.

    Good luck,

    Scott
