  Faulty timecodes–possible remedy?

  Hello,
  We have about 150 Panasonic mini DVs with faulty or non-existant timecodes (perhaps owing to the fact that they were originally recorded or dubbed in LP mode?). When I dubbed from the existing copy onto a blank tape, a nicely working timecode is generated, but could we possibly do this back onto the existing tapes instead of onto new blank tapes? We want to get the timecodes onto the tapes we have without using a whole new set of tapes.

  If your dubbing deck allows, you can set its start timecode to the same as your source source deck. If the source and record deck can listen to ref sync, the timecode should stay close. Similarly, you might be able to jam sync the code if you can get the source to play out code at the start for a few seconds so the other deck could jam to it.
