Is it possible to output DVCPRO 50 to D5? If so, would something like the Matrox MXO be able to handle such a conversion?
Is using D5 overkill for film festival submission (once accepted?) What would be another option?

DVCPRO 50 is Standard Def. D5 is High Def. BIG difference there. You are talking about upconverting SD to HD. No, the MXO cannot handle this. The Kona 3 can, but do you really need to do this? Upconverting won’t get you any boost in quality. Best you can get is outputting to DVCPRO 50 or Digibeta.
Are you required to deliver a D5?

I’ve not heard of a single festival that projects from D5. Most don’t even project HD. The vast majority still go Beta SP and Digibeta with some DV and occasionally HDCAM.

No, D5 isn’t necessary; I just thought it was more of a superior format (newbie with this sort of thing.)
I’m just trying to build up some info before I start actually taping; doing anything major. I’ve heard that it’s best to know your final output before doing anything, to help avoid possible difficulties, but I do know I want to go DVCPRO 50 with the HVX200.

Why not just shoot DVCPROHD? It means maybe a few more P2 cards you have to rent and you’re future proofing yourself. You can always downrez to SD but uprezzing to HD is fairly heinous even from DVCPRO50.
