    Hey guys and gals,

I’m currently having a serious problem.

I have a panasonic P2 card, with clips that have already been shot on it.

These clips when viewed by the camera are:

    1) One clip has a thumbnail, with duration and playable.
    2) Some clips have no thumbnail, and have a duration, and are NOT playable.
    3) Some clips have a thumbnail and duration, but have a red slash on the upper right portion of the clip, and are NOT playable.
    4) Some clips have a no thumbnail, and no duration, and are not playable.

    So what is my problem?

How do I recover my video clips?

The Thumbnails and durations are there, but the clips themselves are unplayable!! How do I fix them?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    BK.

You might try Raylight for Mac https://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac to recover the video and here is why.

    1) Raylight only looks at the headers of the MXF files and creates links to the data straight into Final Cut Pro, so it is the least judgemental about bad data. It does not even look at the data.

    2) You won’t have to copy the entire files off the card, you can render a fully or partially recovered clip by selecting the parts you need in the sequence and exporting a quicktime from that, essentially skipping over the bad data (if there is any).

There is a free demo at the link above, give it a try.

Were the clips shot at different resolutions? You cannot play 720p clips if the camera is in 1080 and vice versa, so if you have different formats on the cards, you have to exit MCR mode, change the format setting in the camera, then go back into MCR mode to play those clips.

There seems to be a number of problems on this card and I am curious what happened. I have never seen this. In fact if you are in the US I would swap you a P2 card for this card just so I could look at it. Please contact me offline. critendenj at us.panasonic.com.

    Thanks,
