I think I’ve read some posts on this topic, but I still don’t have the answer to my question.

I need a workflow suggestion for footage shot at 720pN. Final output for network is 525/29.97 (Digibeta). In a perfect world, I’d love to convert the footage to 29.97fps and edit in the same timeline. But there’s no way to do that on ingest, correct?

Is the workflow simply to edit at 24fps?? and at what point do I move to 29.97?
    New timeline??

I’ll entertain all ideas. Up until now we’ve shot DVCPRO50 on a SDX900.
Would like to experiment with HD this season.

    Thanks
    Ron

Get yourself a Kona card (LHe or Kona 3) and it will downconvert for you as you output. And you can edit 23.98 and output to 29.97 and it looks fine.

The only caviat is that 23.98 DVCPRO HD is NON DROP only in FCP. So you have to adjust your timing to make sure that it times out properly to Drop Frame when you output to digi.

    Exactly! Thanks.
I have the LH, so I guess the question from a (network clock) workflow concept is timing. Is it just experimenting, or is there a solid workflow for editing 24fps to 29.97?

The main reason I ask is because I’d like to take advantage of the extra time and space you gain by shooting native. An average show can shoot 4-5 hours for a 30minute master.

If I read correctly, this shouldn’t be much of an issue with FCP6.

    Thanks again.

    This is what I did:

You have to figure out what length of an NDF sequence you need that will transfer to DF.
