I just heard about the P2 Log Pro Application. Does anyone have any experience with it? I have used P2 Genie in the past. Is P2 Log Pro intended to replace P2 Genie? Does it aid in backing up files from the P2 card store to the raid or hard drive? I’m always looking for something to help my current workflow. My current worklow is as follows:

    1-Shoot on HVX200 to P2 Cards
    2-Transfer P2 Cards to P2 Card Store
3-Back P2 Card Store to Portable Raid via MacBook Pro
4-Backup Raid to and additional Hard Drive for Safety

Any thoughts would be appreciated. BTW. Most of my projects are edited on FCP although I do have a few editors the would prefer Avid.

    Thanks

[redrock] “Does anyone have any experience with it?”

Yes. It is another way to convert MXF files to Quicktime files. It also allows you to view the footage before you import it.

No. The P2 Genie copies the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP files from the P2 cards or P2 store onto an external hard drive, placing them into individual folders. As I stated before, P2 Log is another tool for importing and cataloging P2 footage. They do different things.

    Your workflow sounds like mine.

This is a excellent application. It allows viewing of the mxf data, repairing clips. If you want further functionality take a look at the HDLog product @ https://www.imagineproducts.com/hdlog.htm I have both applications, and have dusted the “Genie” in favor for P2 log and or HDLog which has much more functionality. If you shoot P2 this is the application for your workflow that you cannot do without. They have a demo of HDLog, try it out.

P2 Log Pro is great viewer for Mac. Otherwise you need to import in FCP in order to see footage. During import you can view it in lower resolution. Advantage of P2Log Pro is that you can view it in full resolution right away, rename clips, generate xml, repair clips and convert to QT in a quick way.
P2Genie is great, small, cheap application to transfer cards or just erase and eject card and this is a main reason I keep it. It is one click and costs 30 bucks.
Both applications are usefull and if you have FCP then you don’t need HDLog. P2Log Pro and FCP together will do everything.
In a short future you should be able to cut your workflow to 2 points if adapter from Duell System is out. Transfer of P2 cards will be much faster and yo can go straight to portable RAID.
In your situation I would set RAID to level 1 so automatically you have copy. If I am shooting for somebody else then I would copy that footage from RAID to another external drive (3rd copy). Otherwise, you already have backup with RAID.

Try out the HD Log 4.0 demo. You can auto name and offload to up to 3 locations.

Is P2 Log only for MAC or is it also available for the PC?
