New to the HVX!!!
Posted by Tarik Sykes on February 5, 2007 at 8:18 pmI just got a new job and this web-site company that hired me has a HVX. I was wondering if there are any good books to read up on it? I use a DVC-80 and I like a lot. What is the P2 for since you still can use DV tapes? Is it for HD? Thanks if you can help with a book or some form of training….Thanks

February 6, 2007 at 4:47 pmThe P2 or a hard drive are used if you are filming in HD right?

February 6, 2007 at 7:07 pmDo you plan to use the DVC80 for capture? Maybe you can convince your purchasing manager to acquire some more advanced equipment in order to benefit all the resolution available on the camera.

February 6, 2007 at 8:21 pmrmherd : We have ordered a panna dv deck for capture. I was just a lil confused when I got the cam in my hands on mon. that it had a mini-dv on it. I never knew that it had this option on it when I was reading articles and it was like it was a P2 cam only and with that in mind I really didn’t look any further into this cam. Why does it have the P2 on it? What are the benefits of P2? Thanks

February 7, 2007 at 7:47 pmYou asked, “Why does it have the P2 on it? What are the benefits of P2?”
The answer is latency. That is, you can immediately use the data (or really close to immediately, anyway). Other formats require saving the signal to tape, and then the editor needs a capture card. There’s much technical information available on line, but I’ve found that people don’t really care about that; they just want pretty pictures. And the hvx200 takes pretty pictures.

The DV option is just that…DV only. So that you can use that camera as a great miniDV camera as well.
Advantage of P2? HUGE! You can record HD to it…1080i, 720p…or a multitude of SD formats. That camera can shoot and record 81 different formats onto that P2 card. And only miniDV to tape.
