  • What is true progressive scan?

I’ve found myself confused over the uses of interlaced and progessive scans. If i’m shooting say 480i 24p, what is the final scan? The resolution is described with an “i” for interlaced, but the frame rate is 24p. Does the interlaced resolution negate the 24p? I shoot for the web, and have had to de-interlace during my encodes and heard that shooting to a true progressive frame alleviates the encoding process of de-interlacing. Any truth to that?

Never de-interlace progressive-scan footage. You’ll just throw away resolution and ruin the frames.

The DVX and HVX scan their chips progressively and create true progressive-scan footage. Use an editing program that knows how to “remove pulldown” and you’ll get exactly what you want — pure and proper progressive-scan footage.

Thanks for the help, especially you Barry. I’m on my third run of The HVX Bootcamp DVD. I can slowly feel myself becoming an HVX expert.
