  Can you monitor 720p60 footage from FCP to HD monitor via HVX200?

  Can you monitor 720p60 footage from FCP to HD monitor via HVX200? I have the cables hooked up to component out from camera to monitor. If I play directly from camera, it plays fine. However, if I try to monitor video from FCP timeline, it only plays black. Yes, external video is on apple firewire 720p 60. External video is on all frames. I have tried refresh devices (Actually when I try refresh devices, I see the hd screen blink so it seems like FCP is communicating to it.) I have trashed prefs and tried again with same results. Other non hd formats work. Can anybody confirm that this can be done? FCP version 5.1.2.

  Nope, check the HVX manual. Basically, I think it’s due to too much heat being generated by the HVX to use it as a monitoring tool.

  Check out the Matrox MXO if you are on a laptop, or the Kona series cards (LH/LHe, 2 or 3) if you are on a desktop.

  Matrox MXO is compatible with laptop and desktop.

  True, but it provides output only, no input. If you are on a desktop, might as well spend the money on a card you can use for input as well.

  On a laptop, the MXO is basically the only choice for HD monitoring at the current moment.

  Hopefully, AJA will make some sort of io HD at some point.
