  Firestore/1394 and power-saving mode

  I have a rather unique issue relating to the HVX200 and firestore… I’m involved in a project documenting deep underwater caves. We’ve built a very simple housing for the HVX200 and firestore that allows us to go deep (300’/100m) and have access to all of the firestore buttons– but only has a record start/stop button for the camera. Our problem is that we want to turn the camera on with the firestore connected, but then have the camera go into sleep/power-saver mode because we often have a four to six hour dive before we need to actually begin filming. From my reading of page 117 of the HVX manual, you can’t enter sleep mode if a 1394 connection has been established (obviously so that the camera won’t go into sleep mode during a file download).

  Does anyone out there have any ideas about how to put the camera into power-saving mode with a firestore drive connected? Any undocumented tricks?
