P2 Camera for 2,849.00????
Posted by Matt Gorney on November 2, 2006 at 10:45 pmHas anyone checked out this deal from expresscameras.com
for the AG-HVx200?It’s listed for 2,849.00 which has to be too good to be true!
A reseller forum rates this company 3 out of 10 stars.
Anyone deal with them?

November 2, 2006 at 11:20 pmIf the company isn’t Panasonic Authorized, then do not buy from them.
If it is too good to be true, then it isn’t.

If the price isn’t around $5300 USD, it’s likely a scam.

November 2, 2006 at 11:25 pmYeah, I agree with you.
I actually called the company and they confirmed the price saying
that they can go this low because they are a wholesaler (who isn’t?). He said
it comes with a 4gb card and all the manufacturer stuff it usually comes with.I assumed it was too good to be true, but I wondered if anyone actually
tried to buy one from them. The forum I mentioned is the same you linked to.

November 3, 2006 at 5:03 amHey, maybe it’s the proto type they had at NAB 2005! Was that one plastic or wood?

November 3, 2006 at 10:51 amThis is a scam guys. Save your money and buy it frm an authorized reseller. With the new free 8GB card, you wouldn’t want your self to be in a position of not qualifying for that because you bought a gray market. I think this is the guy, that sells all the components seperately, battery, AC adapter, insurance. Get a good price from an authorized dealer and you will be good to go.
Best,
Jan

Also, what constitutes a “gray market”? I’m looking to buy and don’t want to run into
any problems with whatever that is.-Matt

November 13, 2006 at 4:49 pmOH yeah, this is such a hilarious issue. I was buying some cams a few years back, and even though I know the spiel, I called one of those “ultra super lower than anybody’s price” yahoos just to see what they would say.
So… “Sure! We have the XYZ-6000 camera for $3000 less, but we’re out of stock” etc. etc. etc.
But the best part was: “the camera we sell at this price is the Chinese version with the all plastic body, and doesn’t include lens, transport, electronics, case, viewfinder, battery, instructions or warranty”.
As I said, just to see what they would say, I pursued until finally I figured out I could actually buy the “XYZ-6000” (or whatever it was) from them for about 20% more than B&H.
I guess some people go for this sort of bull.
