  DVCPRO HD Quicktime Garbage

  First of all– HVX200 is a miracle camera, could use major improvement on low-light environments –but overall fantastic.

  We have noticed something strange.

  After importing our p2 footage into Final Cut 5, it looks perfect.
  But when you import that file into Combustion, or into PF Tracker– the source file looks like Garbage.

  In Quicktime player its perfect. If you export out of QTP into another CODEC it imports into Tracker at the same beautiful quality.
  So– what is happening with the QT Codec – DVCPRO HD?

  Has anyone else run into this problem with their .mov files?

  Most likely there is no direct support in PFTrack or Combustion for DVCPROHD. My suggestion would be to export as a tiff sequence for maximum image quality. (You should be doing that anyway for any shots you’re doing a lot of tweaking/filtering/compositing/etc for because with DVCPROHD you get a lot of concatenation if you make big changes to the source material.) Getting an uncompressed card such as a Blackmagic Decklink or a Kona would help a lot in this matter if you’re doing a lot of VFX type stuff from DVCPROHD sources.
