Posted by Ken The editor on October 3, 2006 at 6:24 amHas anyone found a good device to help the HVX-200 become a better handheld camera?

October 3, 2006 at 4:20 pmThere’s all kinds of gear out there- steadicams, v-glides, fig rigs, etc. Bottom line is hand-held will always look hand held. If you don’t want that sort of wobbly look you need a dolly, crane or jib.

October 5, 2006 at 3:22 pmOne option we’re looking at is the DV Rig Pro. Anyone out there using this rig?

By having the camera mounted on a longer support, and having it resting on the shoulder, it substantially reduces pitch and yaw motions, thus making the shots a lot steadier.

I have a DVRig Pro and wrote a review of it some time ago that you can find on lafcpug.org and kenstone.net (of course, not to detract from this terrific site).
I really like this product with the HVX. What I really find great about it is the ability to do lots of fine tuning with camera and back counterweight position to achieve a good balance. The belt and spring-pod provide more stability. It is not a steadicam and it is not even marketed as such. But with good balance and “steadicam steps”, it is possible to get a very stable shot.
There is a new product that I tested this summer and will also get in November (the entire inventory was sold out at IBC and they are frantically producing more) is the DVMultiRig. This is a much more portable version and is the most versatile piece of gear I’ve seen. Check out the site at http://www.dvtec.tv
On the DVMultiRig pages, you might recognize a familiar looking model. I say might because I’m close to 100 pounds lighter since the last time you saw me in LA.
By the way, I’m not on the payroll– just one who has reviewed the first product and who will be writing about the MultiRig in another article. Feel free to contact me via PM or off-line if you want more info.
