  • Downconvert creates crushed image on SD-DVD

I’ve finished editing some P2 footage in FCP. (720-24Pn) When I downconvert the footage using Compressor to create an SD DVD, the image becomes very crushed and the colors become overly saturated. Changing the gamma settings in Compressor help, but I’d like to know what’s causing the shift in image quality during the downconvert. I’m obviously not talking about resolution, but rather, the tonality of the image. Does anyone have a fix or know what is causing this? Thanks in advance.

    It’s a known bug.
What you have to do is export your program to a .mov first.
Then close FCP, open compressor and encode from there.
Do a short test to see if that is the problem.

Thanks much for the info. I’ll try that workaround.
