  Must I use P2 cards to obtain HD footage?

  Sorry about this newb question, I am learning as fast as I can.

  From previous posts, it sounded like I could send an HVX200’s (hi-def) footage into a laptop hard drive via FireWire, but I wasn’t sure if this was referring to a live feed (one-step) transfer or whether the data was sent from the P2 card (two-step).

  If P2 is a neccessity, where are the cheapest cards found? Thanks.

  You can send a high def signal from the camera to your computer via firewire….and then to an external media drive…IF you have more than one firewire bus (firewire part adaptor cards needed). You can also record to Firestore drives, but they have many pros and cons and if you search the forum for FIRESTORE and read everything you will see what I mean.

  I don’t recommend going from camera to drive via firewire because….what if the drive dies, or if your capture gets aborted for any reason? Then you are out of luck. Always use the P2 cards or Firestore or Cineporter (coming soon).

  Cheap P2 cards? If you find a place selling them significantly less than everywhere else, watch out! Could be a scam…
