My Firestore works fine and loads on my laptop just like a P2 card in Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 just go to import P2 files. However when I try this on one of our designers stations with FCP 5.0.0. it sees the drive but doesn’t recognize the clips. Is there an issue with 5.0.0. or is there a work around? The design department is reluctant to upgrade at this time to 5.0.4

    Thanks,
    Darryl

My understanding is the p2 support along with the presets appeared in 5.0.4.

That has been rock solid for me and others.

What are the objective obstacles by the design department?

I have 5.0.4. on my power book. Which is fine. However the design department has multiple stations running 5.0.0. Upgrade one they upgrade all. Not something they want to deal with right now. Does FS 100 work on 5.0.0. or do they have to upgrade? They said something about the voodo codec being an issue.

Well they gotta upgrade eventually and there’s never going to be a perfect time if you think about it. And besides, 5.04 is a heck of a lot more stable than 5.0.

    5.0.0 supports P2 for standard-def only.

The main upgrade in 5.0.4 was to add DVCPRO-HD high-def P2 support.

If you want to use high-def P2 files on those Macs, they will have to be upgraded to at least 5.0.4, if not 5.1.

It takes all of five minutes for this incremental upgrade.

Well if your design department is still locked in to the Digital Voodoo cards and codec, as it sounds, I can understand why they have to wait for driver updates. I had one of those cards when I first started with FCP, and had many headaches that were solved by abandoning the card and switching to AJA hardware for capture.
