Who is Panasonic’s main supplier of SSD drives? According to Samsung 16gigs are here and 32gigs are being released today. Sure would be nice to see the 16gig’s on the market soon and the 32’s by the release date of the HPC2000.
Does anyone have any idea what the data transfer speeds will be with the 16 gig and 32 gig versions? The 2gig had 320Mbps and the 4 & 8gig have a 640Mbps rate. Also does the fact that Apple has changed to PCIExpress and the fact that you’d have to use a converter of one form or another, mean that these transfer rates can’t be reached? Not an accusation, just a question. I’ve been hearing that the actual transfer times is taking anywhere between 1 to 4times realtime. Storage increase is great for P2, but obviously transfer speed is practically just as important.

    So my question are:
1.)Who has Panasonic teamed up with to make their P2 cards?
2.)Do other manufactuers’ roll out schedule affect what Panasonic can give us as working P2s? Or is Panny signing contracts with a provider and we will be stuck to their roll out for a number of years at a time.
3.)What are the predicted transfer speeds going to be of the 16 and 32gig cards?
4.)What does the addoption of PCIExpress by Apple mean to P2 and to P2’s transfer speeds?
5.)Is there any hope of seeing the 32gig P2’s with the HPC2000 Nov06-Jan07 release date?

    Thanks,

As far as I know, those Samsung cards do not work with the HVX-200. They aren’t P2 cards, but another format of PCMCIA flash media reader

But we won’t know for sure until they come out and we try them…

Oh yes I was aware that they aren’t the propriatory Panasonic brand of P2, but I guess the Samsung announcement that 32gig was available wehn Panasonic is still working on releasing 16 made me wonder what the release schedule was going to be for Panasonic and in turn is Panasonic partnered with a single company to produce the P2 cards or are they totally manufacturing them on their own? As well as all the other questions in my first post…

I’m sure Panasonic OEMs the cards and has them made somewhere in China, then marks them up about 1000%. Why? Because they can.
