P2 – Mac compatability
I checked the Panasonic website and they only mention Windows compatability. Can I plug the P2 card into my Powerbook the same as a PC?

Yes- though you’ll of couse want FCP for the simplest workflow.

We used an older 133GHz Laptop to edit last weekend, no problems.

Right — I was amazed. A two-year-old 1.3ghz Powerbook G4 was able to handle full-screen, full-res, full-size realtime playback of a 100mbps DVCPRO-HD data stream. So yes, I’d say a top-of-the-line powerbook would be completely suitable and a totally workable edit station.

That is interesting. Initially I do not plan to offer full-blown sit down at my place editing just yet. I hardly ever edit with clients. But having a Lap-top on location to check footage out and do some basic editing would be ideal. Where you using the internal HD on the laptop, or where you running external drives??
I just need a set-up for the next 3-4 months to do this and deliver
HD stock footage as QT. So a Powerbook and FCP would fill this bill??

Yep, powerbook+FCP would handle that just fine. We used both the internal and external drives. Obviously you would want the fastest internal drive you could get, preferably 7200rpm. But even an old 1.33ghz powerbook could play back full-screen, full-res, full-frame rate DVCPRO-HD off its internal hard disk.

A couple of questions (maybe stupid but I’ll ask anyway)
Can Apple FCP support P2 MXF native or do I need to convert on import (i.e. can I edit on the P2 card)?
Also, can I use the AJ-PCD10 drive with clip spanning support?
Also, I’m looking at an AJ-PCS060G Store – can I use that on my MAC (i.e. mount it and edit directly with spanned support)?
lots of questions, but I’m getting pushed to go tapeless – and I need to know what I’m buying in to !!!
