Graeme, have you had the opporuntiy to use the new format conversion in compressor? How does it compare to your own “standards conversion” plug-ins? Compressor is using the new optical flow technology developed for shake i think so id imagine it would be quite good, but optical flow is also quite slow!

    Thanks

My FCS hasn’t arrived yet, so I don’t know. Indeed, the quality might be good, but I’m also betting it will be very, very slow indeed. Some video doesn’t work well with Optical Flow analysis, so the quality is footage dependent, whereas what I’m doing will be faster and totally consitent. Perhaps the Best standards conversion available is the Snell & Wilcox Alchemist, and I’ve had very favourable comparisons with what I do compared to it, sometimes in favour of what I’m doing. Personally, I think it’s good that people have options. They can use my converter, Dv Atlantis which looks different again, and now Compressor, which will be different also, and they can choose what will render fastest for the quality they need.

Thanks graeme! I havent gotten my FCS yet either so i havent seen compressors results. But Ive heard very good things about your plug-ins. And for the price, its a no brainer just to have more than one option at your disposal.
