Some interesting details from this article:

In September, Panasonic plans to introduce a small field transfer device, the AJ-PCS060. You will be able to insert a P2 card and have it copied at high speed to a 60GB hard disk. It will require four minutes to copy a 4GB card.

At last, we’ll have an under-$10,000, 720p/60 camcorder that also shoots DV (perhaps to a built-in MiniDV transport), DVCPRO, and DVCPRO 50.

This is the first I’ve seen anyone say that the camera will shoot DV as well as DVCPro.
    Interesting.

    I suppose we’ll know in 7 days.
Anyone want to start a betting pool?

    (that was a joke)

I’m still anxious to see if the AG-HXV200 has miniDV tape support or not and what the boxed package includes – ie, are we getting a P2 card with it at all?

I am more confident than ever now, that it *will* have a DV tape transport.

The official Panasonic catalog page is at:
    https://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93120&catGroupId=14569&modelNo=AG-HVX200&surfModel=AG-HVX200

It spells out a couple of things we suspected but hand not been confirmed: three 1/3″ 16:9 CCDs, for one thing, and definitely a firewire port for another. But it also says it records DVCPROHD/50/25 and DV. Now, while I think there’s no prayer of it having any sort of DVCPRO tape transport, the fact that they’d include both DVCPRO25 and DV seems very telling. What’s the difference between the two? Only the tape it’s recorded on (in NTSC land, that is). Which means: why would they separately spell out DVCPRO25 and also DV? I’ll bet it’s because DV will get recorded to tape, whereas DVCPRO25 will get recorded to P2.

I hope your speculations about miniDV support are right on this one…

Anyone know how Premiere Pro 1.5 would work with this camera and the whole DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO, and P2 issues? That’s my editing system and I really do not want to change it, but the advantages of this camera are looking better and better the more I hear about it.

In NTSC, DV and DVCPro are identical apart from tape formulation. The advertising copy, what I’m reading now on the site is sloppy. I wouldn’t read too much into it until it’s the final version with all the features / specs etc.

I would be surprised if this camera had a tape transport. It has been spelled out pretty well that Panasonic sees P2 as the future and they have also stated that there is no way they could write even DV50 to the minidv tape.

I think it’s just time to move on anyway. P2 is a great concept and the cost will even out over time.

No announcement that I’ve heard yet, but by all means, go over to Adobe’s site and nag ’em. I’ve been nagging the Vegas guys to include DVCPRO-HD support. Avid and FCP and Canopus already support it natively, no reason why Premiere and Vegas shouldn’t, so definitely fill out a “product feature request” and submit it.

I’ve been filling them out, e-mailing Adobe as much as I can, and basically demaning support in Premiere Pro. Even if I do not purchase this new Panasonic HVX200 P2 camera, I still want to be able to edit the footage in my NLE if I have a client that has material shot in this form. I would hate to have to change my NLE just to get DVCPRO HD and DVCPRO 50 support.
