  • Masking a chroma keyed area leaves an outline of the mask

Posted by Ian Rosaaen on February 18, 2013 at 9:51 pm

My green screen is relatively narrow (5-1/2 ft. wide), but big enough so that the subject is fully in it.

I used the After Effects CS6 shape tool to create a mask to display only the green screen area. (Feather = 0 and the mask was well within the confines of the green screen.) That worked well, EXCEPT, the edge of the mask leaves its outline in the final result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Show screenshots of your final composite in the Composition panel, as well as your relevant layers in the Timeline panel. Then we can see what you’re seeing and be better able to help.

Wait. I think it was the Keying – green blur effect that caused the lines. I removed the effect and the lines went away. Problem solved (for now). Thank you.
