  Choosing a computer

  I am working in Cinema 4D Broadcast, After Effects and Premier. 

  My company offered to buy me a new computer. 
  Lenovo
  Processor: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2603 (10M Cache, 1.80GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel QPI )
  1st Memory DIMM: 8GB ECC PC3 1333MHZ RDIMM
  2nd Memory DIMM: 8GB ECC PC3 1333MHZ RDIMM
  First Video Adapter: NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (2GB Dual link DVI + DP+ Stereo 3D)

  Is it good for all the stuff that I do? 

  P.S. I am really bad at choosing computers, don’t know much about it so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  I am working in Cinema 4D Broadcast, After Effects and Premier.

  For After Effects I would suggest you to go for more RAM.

  For making quick 3D shapes and 3D Texts directly in AE(This would be very helpful in short deadlines as you don’t have to render from a 3D appliation), you could use AE CS6 new Ray-Tracing Feature which would require a good GPU. NVIDIA Quadro 4000 would be a good graphic card but not the best one.

  In a nutshell, Go for more RAM to increase the overall performance.

  For Premiere and Cinema 4D, You would get a better option in their respective Forums.

  This is very helpful!

  I just learned that the processors I picked don’t have hyper-threading. Does this matter?

  Also, what graphic card would you recommend over the Quadro 4000? (Other than one that costs $2k more?) 🙂

  If you want a laptop/mobile workstation, I would go for a more customizable option. Falcon PC or Origin PC for the most options, or Dell XPS, Alienware or HP.

  It does, and so does processor memory speed (you want to start with E5-1620 at the minimum; better yet – E5-1650).

  Nothing on the Quadro side: the only decent one that’s not old tech, is K5000, and it is about $2K. On the GeForce side, it’s GTX-670, 680, and even 660 Ti. None of the big boys (HP, Dell, Lenovo) offer those for their workstations so you’d want someone (an integrator like yours sincerely, or a local technician) to put it in and configure it for you.
