  AE Disc Cache Question

  Hello…working on an older MacPro, and am adding a 3tb 7200 rpm internal hd. I was thinking I would partition off 1tb to be used as AE’s disc cache. Any reason I shouldn’t do this? I realize I only know enough to be dangerous.
  I know SSD would be better, and my OS and apps are on one, but I’m at the limit of my willingness to expand this machine in hopes of the promised 2013 upgrade being worthwhile.

  You want to partition 1 TB of a 3 TB drive off for Ae’s cache, and then use the remaining 2 TB for what?

  Ae’s cache is very disk-intensive, so I generally recommend a dedicated disk. Any reads/writes to the other partition on that same disk will diminish the speed of cache, and any reads/writes to the cache will diminish the speed of the other partition.

  The other 2tb were going to be for current project files (I like to keep that as a separate disc and use Time Machine to back it up). Sounds like a bad plan now, glad I asked.
