Activity Forums Adobe After Effects S-video?

My friend and I are trying to dump some Hi8 footage onto his computer. There are ports for L&R audio, Video, and S-video on the camera itself. His card appears to only OUTPUT S-video, because we tried connecting it and Vegas doesn’t see a darn thing. (Not to mention there appear to be at least 2 different types of S-video jack configurations).

I can capture with my soundcards Firewire port, but this camera is so old it doesn’t have Firewire capability. I’ve got the capability to capture the audio, but not the video.

Are there any kind of adapters that will take a regular old RCA video feed, and adapt it to USB/Firewire?

If you don’t want to buy any extra hardware just for this, find another camcorder. Either a Digital8 with firewire out, or any DV camcorder with S-video in. Then just use it to pass the signal thru to your computer’s firewire port.

Never mind, I just found out. That’s expensive hardware! O.O I’ll go with your suggestion, but how exactly is it set up? Is it a simple PnP daisy-chain setup?

definitely try and use your S-vid out instead of the regular composite output. S video will looks tons better because it won’t have the artifacts that regular video does.

Another option, if you can find one, is to use a Digital8 camcorder – they play Hi8 and Video8 over firewire.

But if you can’t find one, then a daisy-chain through any DV camcorder will work (assuming it has analogue inputs, most do).
