  • AE CS6 crashes while loading 3D Cameratracker

Posted by Florian Thamer on January 4, 2013 at 3:26 pm

    Hi everybody,

I’m new to this forum, so please excuse me if the question has been asked before.
I made a project that has some camera tracking in it. I used the built in tracker from AE CS6. So far so good. Everything worked fine.
But after closing AE and reopening the project file the program keeps crashing with the following message:
After Effects Error: After Effects crashed while loading the Effect Plugin “3D Cameratracker” (I’m on the german version, so the english translation for this error message is probably a bit different)
After I click OK I get the same message but with “Auto-Color” (don’t blame me for using Auto Color, it was late and I was lazy ;))
    Then AE crashes.
Luckily I CAN open an automatic Backup of the file, but thats 3 hours older and I don’t want to work on the project with the knowledge that all progress is gonna be lost again anyway.

So do you have an idea on how to solve this?

    Here are my specs:

    Mac OS 10.6.8
    After Effects CS6 (11.0.1.12)
    2×3.2GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
    32GB RAM
I also used Particular, Optical Flares, Twixtor Pro (Demo) plugins, but they don’t (seem to) make problems

    thanks in advance

    Florian

Start a new project and import the crashed .aep file in it.

It may open it without errors.

Also try updating the 3rd part plugins.

One advice is to use Increment and Save option. This will save your file with an increment in number and reduces the loss of work done if the file crash.

For a start, install the After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) update: https://adobe.ly/lsrkmJ
It includes a lot of bug fixes, including some fixes for crashes.

[Vishesh Arora] “One advice is to use Increment and Save option. This will save your file with an increment in number and reduces the loss of work done if the file crash.”

Highly recommended. I increment and save pretty often. It’s not uncommon for the very first version I send out for feedback to be in the high single digits, and it’s not uncommon for my final version number to be in the high teens or even twenties.

[Florian Thamer] “I used the built in tracker from AE CS6.”

[audrey paranuik] “r those plugins compatible w/ AE 6 version??”

Yes, the effects that ship with Ae CS6 are compatible with Ae CS6.

[audrey paranuik] “hi no worries i am NEW 2”

And you’ve found a really wonderful place to learn.

[audrey paranuik] “perhaps those effects are created in a higher version that may be causing the crashing – not sure though
    hope this helps”

May I suggest that since you are new, you get a feel for how the group usually communicates? It’s great that you want to contribute — all the different contributors with their varied experiences are what make the community here so valuable — but we generally don’t jump in minutes after a post goes up to offer guesses at solutions far outside of our own experiences.

I had a similiar problem with 3D in AE CS6. Resolved by updating to Lion. In fact it solved a lot of other little bugs as well.

    All the best
