    Hi

    Using After Effects CS5.

I tried Googling this, thinking there would be plenty of tutorials/plugins to do this, but I couldn’t find anything that would suit my particular needs.

I am creating an opening title. I have some Headline text that I created in Illustrator.

I want the text to speed into the shot and SKID to a complete stop. IN an exaggerated cartoony (Tex Avery?) mode — adding skid marks and/or tire smoke burn would be an added plus.

If importing the text from Illustrator is a problem, I could of course create the text directly in After Effects.

Does anyone know of any tutorials or plugins that will help me do this.

    Thanks!

Take a look at the Ease and Wizz script here:

While not a complete solution, it will give you a jumping off point to get the Tex Avery skid to a stop look. I think you might need to add Hold frames at certain points, since a skid stop sort of hangs the skidding object (friction), then suddenly lets go. So the object kind of halts, stretches forward, then springs back a bit when the friction lets go…does this make sense?

I don’t see any specific tutorials on this either, but there are some really good books from Focal Press on the topic:

“adding skid marks and/or tire smoke burn would be an added plus.”

For skid marks, you can animate a Mask on a solid layer with Roughen Edges effect.

For tire smoke burn, using Red Giants Trapcode Particular is an easy and great way.

You can also create sparks using CC Particle World.

Cartoon type animation is defined by exaggerated moves. Tune up anything you think normal and multiply it by 10 and you should get closer. Also, using Mesh Warp or Bezier Warp (under distort) to make the top of the text wobble back and forth when it stops could be a way to go.
