I’ve used After Effects for years and have been quite happy with it. Recently my G5 required me to reinstall the operating system along with all of my various programs… For some reason now when I pull video clips that were exported via QuickTime from Final Cut Pro to After Effects 6.5 Pro I now see a noticeable difference in quality.

The clips that I import are grainer, less visual depth of color, and a lots more aliasing. I’m not completely new to this and have checked all of the various quality settings throughout the program & comp… but I cannot figure it out. I never noticed this before and now it’s quite noticeable.

It’s the same codec that I’ve always used in FCP with good results, and when I play the exported clip in FCP it looks identical to the original… So I know it’s not that. Just when I pull it into AE does it immediately look like poop. Anyone out there know what changed?

    Thanks for your time!

When field interpretation is switched on for a footage item, you effectively only see half the resolution during still and RAM previews. AE normally turns interpretation on by default when you import QT footage of standard dimensions.

If you turn OFF field interpretation (File/Interpret Footage/Main) are you happier with what you see during previews?

Also, with interpretation left ON, are you happy with your final renders?
