  arranging folders

  Hello everyone,

  this is not exactly a AE question only, but i was wondering if someone has gone trough the same. I am in a new company and everything is a mess, the folders for the projects are totally scattered and good structure.

  So I have 2 questions:

  1 – What do you recommend to arrange the projects into folders in windows or mac , considering there are premiere and After effect projects?

  2 – Inside the AE project panel, how do you arrange the folders ?? I usually follow the structure (final comp/ precomps / resources / solids )

  To arrange the projects into folders in windows or mac

  The best way to keep AE files is in a Folder with the Project Name and all the Footage used in it in a “Footage” folder.

  In AE, If you go to File> Collect Files and choose Collect Source file – All.

  This will give you the AE files and footage in a well managed way.

  Inside the AE project panel, how do you arrange the folders ?? I usually follow the structure (final comp/ precomps / resources / solids )

  I have a template project I use for my project panel. Each time I start a new project, I open my template and then save it with a new name. I have default folders for Audio, Grx, Precomps, Soids and Video. If necessary I will add sub-folders, GRX_Logos, GRX_Textures, Precomps_Text, Precomps_Noise and so on. I also have keep a camera rig in there too.

  Hi Victor –

  I have one word for you – Bridge. I use it to manage thousands of files, and wrote an article for the COW Magazine a couple of years ago which gets into the details of how to best manage projects:

  Your naming conventions may vary a bit, but if you follow the guidelines, you’ll be able to find your project and assets, no matter when they were created. The hard part will be cleaning up the last person’s mess.

  Thanks a lot Joseph, your articles is amazing. I would use the same workflow to update the mess in the new tv broadcast I am working now.

  I have a couple of questions.

  If in the same project for a certain client, you have premiere projects and AE projects, how do you arrange the folders?? and what if the assets are for both of them?

  Do you work with versions? I mean using Increment and Save from AE. In the case you want to review any of these changes as the client does not like the new changes and he prefers the old version.

  It is possible to labeling the premiere projects file? I want to include some metadata on the Premiere files, such as the briefing and keywords as well. I tried in Bridge CS5 , but it does not allow me.
