  • Can Motion 5 be made to support Arabic text properly in different Arabic fonts?

I often have to work with Arabic captions in the promos I cut, and as far as I can tell Arabic does not seem to be fully supported by Motion. The problem is that the letters do not connect to each other the way they are supposed to unless you use the one Arabic font – Geeza Pro – that Motion seems to understand. And that’s an off-brand font for the channels I work for, it’s considered far too old-fashioned.

I don’t write Arabic myself, so I create the captions by copying the Arabic text from the script and pasting it into a text object in a 1920×1080 Photoshop document (Photoshop handles Arabic correctly), then applying the appropriate font (TheSansArabic) and resizing before saving out as a PSD that I can then import into Motion.

Is there any way I can get Motion directly handling Arabic properly in fonts other than Geeza Pro? I’m keen to find a way of doing this because then I could use the 3D Text options to create true 3D captions in Arabic.
