  • Putting a still image on moving image

Posted by Michael West on October 26, 2012 at 8:31 pm

This is for Motion 4 (…”from my cold, dead hands!”)
I am using footage of a coral reef with fish.
I would like to put an image of Jake Gyllenhaal on one of the fish as it moves around. The image would not be on it all the time, just eerily periodic, kinda ghosty.
Would someone please direct me to the proper matte, mask, behavior, filter, process, etc. to do such a thing?
    Much appreciated.

I would use the Match Move behavior to track the fish so the image will move with the fish. Hope this helps and best of luck.

    Stephen:
Thank you so much for the swift reply.
It’s what makes you folks so great.

My next question is: how do I create a mask on the moving fish within which I put the image?
Should I use the bezier mask tool, draw the mask around the fish, and, if so, do I need to Match Move the mask as well as the fish?
    Thanks again.

    Michael,
Place the footage in say track 1. Jakes face in Track 2. Add the Match Move behavior to Track 2. Make sure that the clip in track 1 is in the Source window of the Match Move behavior. Find a good track point and hit the Analyze button. Feel free to add a mask to the Jack face image and it will move around with the fishy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I’m pretty sure Larry Jordan did a tutorial on placing Jake Gyllenhaal over moving fish. Or was it Stephen Smith. Anyway, the Gyllenfish effect might even be in the software manual.
