I have Motion 5 and Motion 4 installed on two different Macbook Pros. One is a 15 inch 2010 and one is a 15 inch 2008. Motion 4 was always not that fast but still speedy enough. I usually make Animation codec alpha graphics. When I installed Motion 5, I tried doing the same exact graphic, except this time it is taking twice as long. As a matter of fact, it is taking twice as long on any graphic I do. But when I go back and use Motion 4, it runs at normal speed and doesn’t take long at all. Is there something I’m missing here? Why would the newest program be so slow, when, especially on my newer Macbook Pro, it should be running even faster?

Motion 4 runs in 8-bit space by default; Motion 5 is 16 or 32-bit all the time, so can be slower on some projects. If you switch Motion 4 to 16-bit then you’ll have a more fair comparison.

That is something I didn’t know so thank you for that. However, one of the main graphics I do, which I output with Prores 422 at 16-bit, is also taking twice as long. I tested it, and outputted the graphic at 16 bit in Motion 4 just to make sure. And it was indeed twice as fast as Motion 5 outputting the same graphic. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I was referring to playback performance, not render times – not sure why you are seeing such a difference.
