  Use Text as Image Mask, need stroke/outline

  Hello,

  In my project, the very bottom layer is a video clip. Above that layer is a black rectangle that fills the screen. I’m using a Text Layer as an Image Mask on the black rectangle so you can see the video clip through the text, however, I need to add an outline around the text/mask so it’s easier to see. How can I do this?

  The image mask should be on the video not the black if you want the video to be “inside” the text.

  Place video on top layer.
  Place text below that.
  Place black on bottom.
  Create image mask for video.
  Drop text into image mask well.
  Duplicate text (and turn layer on)
  Add Outline to duplicate

  Woops, I figured it out already. I thought I came on here and explained, but I guess my post didn’t go through.

  I’d prefer to have the black layer on top with the image mask so I can just export that layer and drop it into FCP. That way if I want to change the clip “inside” the text, I just change it in FCP.

  Anyway, I figured it out. I just animated the text used for the image mask first. Once that was done, I duplicated that text layer, turned off the Fill and turn on the Outline. Works perfect.
