Motion causes havoc with video card
I’m having a problem with my video card that seems to be isolated to Motion (and probably related to earlier posts of very slow renders)
I have an early 3.0 8 core macpro, 9 gigs of ram and the ATI X1900.
When I’m running Motion, the fan on the ATI ramps up and down – exports are very slow (like 8 hours for a 30 second animation) and a few times, I’ve had the computer go into a sleep mode and won’t wake up. I need to do a forced shut down by holding down the power button. (I’ve noticed a red light on the ATI card lights up when this happens)
This seems to be isolated to Motion, The Motion project is pretty simple compared to some After Effects projects I’m working on and I haven’t had any problems with complex 3D work in Cinema 4D.
Also, I’ve experienced these video card fan and sleep issues when rendering motion projects inside FCP as well.
This is Motion 4 running under 10.5.8.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (but please don’t tell me to start by doing a clean install of the OS and reinstalling everything) 😉
thanks!
