Anyone know how I can achieve an effect like this? It’s one of my favorite commercials:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnIEatpna7E

It seems like they export a still image of a video clip. When the clip explodes, what’s really exploding is the still image. Therefore, I can break up the image into layers in Photoshop and add the repel behavior? And perhaps some other crazy keyframes? Is there a better technique? Anyone see anything I’m missing?

    Thank for any input

Patrick Sheffield has come up with a very clever way to do this and he explains it in his new book

Nice! Sounds like an awesome book. Motion has always been able to do what I need it to do (because I’m not really a motion graphics guy), but it has always seemed to be a bit limited. A book on how to cheat in Motion is an awesome idea….perfect for someone who doesn’t want to become so involved with After Effects

This is a really good book you suggested. It just came in yesterday. The name of the book was a bit misleading though…not that I’m disappointed. I just thought it would compare AE and Motion and tell you how to do less obvious tricks in Motion. Great book for sure.
