Please can someone suggest a program that I can import a mov file and overlay a 3-d model? I need to produce an effect of a ghost dog running through a room, but need to control its motion somewhat — the effect doesn’t need to be perfect as the dog will be somewhat transparent and “ghostly” but there’s no budget and I need to get this done pretty soon.

Ideally, I’d be able to export the animated part with alpha channels so I can manipulate it in Motion, I am looking at using one of the Daz model sets that comes in CR2 and OBJ formats.

I don’t mind a bit of a learning curve, or buying some software as I can see this area growing, but I have had no luck so far finding something that will do this.

    Advice appreciated.

Are you creating the dog or the room in 3D?

    Both?

Blender comes to mind, free, open source, with a h-u-g-e base of committed and creative and helpful users and developers as well as many books on the shelves at Barnes and Noble.
