Trouble importing TIFF file
Posted by Atticus Brady on August 9, 2009 at 3:56 amGreetings,
I took a frame from a piece of video in my Avid at work, exported it as a TIFF file at 720×486 so I could work with it in Motion at home, but Motion won’t import the file. Neither will FCP. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

August 9, 2009 at 5:13 pmThe file extension is .tif. When I select one in Motion in the file browser it does not appear in the thumbnail window and hence will not import.

August 10, 2009 at 3:37 amHi Peter,
Dragging from the desktop is a no-can-do. Dragging the file onto the canvas and releasing simply snaps it back to its position on the desktop. Perhaps it’s a TIF thing. I’m going to try exporting the frame grabs as JPEGs, unless you have any other thoughts…
Thanks

August 10, 2009 at 11:22 pmFigured it out. Nothing wrong with the Tiff format. What I had done was create a one-frame subclip from a longer master clip and exported it as a TIFF file. I think the fact that it was only one frame in duration didn’t allow Motion to see the file. I went to the original master clip, marked in/out on the frame I wanted and exported that. That, for whatever technical reason, created a tiff of longer duration which Motion then recognized and imported just fine. Thanks for getting back to me guys!
