I have a dolly shot of a beach, with trees passing by. I am trying to add a title, using Motion 3, that rests on the water and goes behind the trees. Does anyone know how I can get my title behind the trees? Thank you.

Change the Z position of the Trees so its like say 200. Then add the title in and make its Z position say around 50 and it will put it behind the trees and create a really cool 3D picture effect. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately the trees are in the video, so they dont have an independent Z value from the water. I am thinking I might have to use a mask, but im not sure how to pull it off.

Duplicate your video layer. on the top layer separate the trees by using mask(s), put your title between this ‘tree’ layer and the bottom video layer.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you where talking about animating stills.

Create a Mask around the part of the tree that the text will touch.

Select the shape or mask you want to track, click the Add Behavior icon in the Toolbar,
then choose Shapes > Track Points from the pop-up menu.
The behavior is added to the shape, and trackers appear for each control point on the
shape. The trackers are ordered in the same order that the shape was drawn: Control
Point 1 is Track 1, Control Point 2 is Track 2, and so on.

Click the Analyze button in the HUD or Behaviors tab of the Inspector.
The mask control points are tracked to the reference patterns.

Hope this helps. It may be easier to animate the mask yourself.
