  • creating a silhouette with smoke

My goal is to make an object obstruct smoke particles in a real life fashion. How can I make smoke particles-or any particles-drift randomly, move away when they meet an, object and then continue their random behavior. I tried different combinations of the repel and attract behaviors but couldn’t make a behavior that looks natural. My final goal is to hide the object and end up with a smoky silhouette

After Effects, Foam, inverse alpha for the flow map but you won’t like the results.

This is not an easy thing to do in motion graphics applications. You need a full blown 3D app with collision detection and sophisticated layer interaction.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
