Best Camera Setting for Optical Flow Retiming
Hello,
I’m going to shoot some kids jumping in front of a green screen (SDX900 Records DVPRO50). I will probably slow it in post using Apple Motion’s New Optical Flow Retiming tool. I like to shoot 24p for the look, but I realize it all ends up interlaced in FCP anyway. (Looks Aside) Should I go to 30p or 60i on the camera mode? I figure I should add 1/100 or 1/120 Shutter, but I want to get as much info to Motion for the retiming.

Make sure you’re sequence setup for progressive or none- you should be able to get nice progressive retiming out of FCP. If not, try Motion.

If you want to render better slow motion, you must provide as many time slices as you can. Dunno that camera but I’d shoot 60i, 60p, or as high as will possibly go.
Using film, you’d overcrank at 72-1444 frames per second for elegant and sexy slow motion.
Smoothcam is an unpredictable kluge. Might work. But feed it more frames if you can.
