    Hi all,
I might just be missing something here, but as soon as my extruded 3D text has a layer with transparency or a mask infront of it, it shows up as black instead of transparent.

This doesn’t matter whether it’s in the reflection on the 3D text, or a layer placed infront of the text.

    Is this normal?

It’s not normal and there were issues with extruded layers when other layers overlapped and these had masks on them – the end-result (extremely poor anti-aliasing) however differs greatly from yours. The latest AE build, released last week, solves the issue I mentioned. Hopefully it’ll sort yours out.

If it doesn’t, then post screencaps of your Comp and Timeline panels. More screencaps and detail helps.
