  Working with High Def in Motion

  I have just imported several high def (1920×1080) clips into Motion, and am trying to work with them. I created a RAM preview and still am getting roughly 1 frame per second playback. It’s terrible, unworkable lag.

  I’m on a G5 Dual 1.8GHz with 3 gigs of RAM…it should be able to handle this, no?

  Any tips or advice? I’m not sure what to do at this point.

  What kind of hard drives are you playing back from?

  What codec are the movies in?

  Also what graphics card? That’s a lot of frame resolution to through at a comparatively slow system. I am not 100% surprised it is choking on it a little.

  Hard drives are SATA, internal, 7200RPM…Working on a 250 Gig with plenty of space left.

  Graphics card is a GeForce FX 5200..I know it’s old, I’m assuming it’s crap too.

  Still, is there no way around this? You’d think a professional program such as Motion would have some means of at least making it workable. For example, dumbing down the resolution for preview purposes (which just about every other program I know has the capability of doing).

  I appreciate the advice, thanks in advance

  You can of course work in half or quarter resolution- I’ll leave you to the manual to find that option.
