    Hi Folks,
Sorry for the lame question but with all the new features in Motion3 I decided I need to use it for more than just type effects…. Anyway, I have a keyable with a fill and hi-con and can’t seem to make it work. When I apply a Luma key there is a box that says mask source but my source is a moving QT. (two files one fill one hi-con) and it dosen’t look like it will accept it. (I think it might be stills only) I’ve also played with the layering modes but no luck. Yes I could render out of AE or FCP as an embedded alpha but would like to know if this is possible in motion.
PS. love the stroke animation and 3D options!
    Thanks
    Rob

Sorry, old school term…(short for high contrast as in use in a linear key)
    How about Matte and Fill.

Can you ask the question again and pretend like you’re explaining to a kid. With the jargon in there I just don’t quite understand the question.

Ok. Does Motion support keyable elements that do not have an embedded alpha channel?
    ANSWER: YES
    elements:
    1) Fill – a moving statue (gold) over black
    2) Matte – same moving statue white over black

(i.e) in after effects- stack a matte over a fill and select Track mat Luma. (keys over BG)
in FCP stack a fill over a matte over a BG and select composition mode travel matte luma

I discovered I was on the right path by applying an image mask (makes sense) and now have it working… my mistake was trying to drag the movie Icon or Preview into the mask source rather then the movie name.
    Thanks
    Rob
