I am about to slit my wrists! I have been going through a tutorial for FCP and Motion. The files are NTSC ccir-601 anamorphic. I successfully sent the clip to Motion. In motion, the window is 16:9 format. If I do absolutely nothing but save, and return to FCP, the updated .motn file is in the timeline, but it is squeezed into a 4:3 format. I have changed my settings preference for the external editor to motion, I have tried selecting and deselecting anamorphic in the browser (and item properties) with no effect on the clip, I have trashed my preferences for fcp and motion and I have tried a new project. I have checked and rechecked the project settings and sequence settngs, and see no discrepancies. What am i doing wrong?

You’re doing nothing wrong, it’s a bug. What you’ll need to do is select the motn file in the timeline and choose Edit > Remove Attributes making sure that Distort is checked. That will restore the proper 16:9 aspect ratio of the motn in FCP.
