  • Compressing .mov files in After Effects?

Hello, I need to compress some .mov files using the Sorenson 3 codec in After Effects, but when I go to Make Movie it only allows me to save as an AVI.

Also, I cannot see the Sorenson codec in the codec list, but I know it is installed.

    Why is this?

    Thanks, Mark

Check the help under “rendering a movie>changing output module settings”.

You want to render to Quicktime Movie, then choose Sorenson 3 with the “Options” button.

The render queue is great. You can:

    – render a movie to different formats by using composition>add output module. This will not add any noticeable time to your render.
    – watch the render details to determine where your render is slowing down. For example, if it is slow when “retrieving frame”, you might need to defrag or move your files to a faster disk. Or shrink down big source images if possible.
    – create and save preset templates for your render settings and output modules and set one of each as your default render setup. This can save a lot of time. Create a template for Avid delivery, web, uncompressed …
    – duplicate a previously rendered item in the queue to render it exactly the same way.
    – choose to render the work area or any other time span.
    – set AE to automatically import a rendered item and replace the currently used item.

I’ve only ever used File>export for SWFs. For everything else, I use the queue.
